The Fay Group INC.,DBA "The Cleanist"
The Cleanist, as it is now known, was founded in 1925 by Amedeo Ceccarelli as a tailoring and haberdashery shop at 304 Court Street in North Plymouth. This was across the street from the current location.
Several years later, as business grew, Amedeo’s son Leo joined him in doing fine tailoring as well as running the haberdashery. The firm name then changed from Amedeo Ceccarelli – Tailor to A. Ceccarelli & Son.
Soon after the name change, in 1939 Leo Ceccarelli diversified the business by adding a full line of dry-cleaning and finishing equipment in a new location at 301 Court Street, directly across from it’s former location. To expand the dry-cleaning end of the business, Leo added a home pickup and delivery in 1946. This became very popular and is still being offered to today’s customers at The Cleanist, and is still free of additional charges.
Third Generation 1965
Paul Ceccarelli, Leo's son entered
In 1965, third generation Paul Ceccarelli, Leo’s son entered the business after college and began another diversification program that added rug cleaning and its own shirt finishing department. In 1976, Paul began Ceccarelli Uniform Rentals which serviced industrial accounts in the South Shore area. This quickly grew and The Cleanist was forced to move once again. Paul purchased the Old North Plymouth Theatre building in 1978, renovated it and moved both businesses into its new location at 301 1/2 Court Street. In the old days, the Theartre did not have any street number, so the 1/2 was added to avoid confusion. The uniform rental company ws sold in 1994 to Aramark.

Today, both Amedeo and Leo have passed on, and Ceccarelli Cleaners, Inc., its official corporate name, has expaned to five locations and approximately 35 employees. Stores were added in Duxbury in 1982, Kingston in 1998, Pinehills (Plymouth) in 2005, and its newest location at Long Pond Road (Plymouth) in 2006. It also services the towns of Plymouth, Kingston, Duxbury, and parts of Marshfield, Pembroke, and Norwell with free pickup and delivery service.
On December 5th 2013, Thomas Fay purchased The Cleanist from Paul Ceccarelli. Tom has over thirty years of experience in the Dry Cleaning business. He spent those years working with his father Arthur and brother John running Danny’s Cleaners of Braintree and Quincy. Tom plans on continuing The Cleanist’s tradition of providing high quality work with personalized service.
